DIY: Winter ONE-derland Party Favors

A big part of Mylo’s birthday party is the hot cocoa bar that we’ll have at dessert, and Mylo’s Christmas card was him in a tub of hot cocoa! Staying on theme, we opted to give out hot cocoa as a party favor!

Assembly:

  • Hand wash your mini jars and leave to dry completely (I let them dry overnight)

  • Once the jars have dried, use a small spoon or a scoop (I used a new formula scoop) to fill up the jars most of the way. You don’t actually need that much hot cocoa powder to make

  • Top-off the jars with the mini dehydrated marshmallows!

  • Close your jars tightly.

At this point, you’re realistically done. It’s not a difficult project (I finished off 96 of these during Mylo’s nap) to undertake. If you want to add some fun little embellishments, let’s keep going!

  • I designed stickers that matched our invites and thank-you cards. Zazzle is an easy place to get designs that all match or to order a pre-made design in a new format. We ordered ours in a circle shape to put on the top of the jar, but a return address sticker would also fit the side of the jar! If you purchase the jars I linked above, they actually come with “chalkboard” stickers and white paint pens to write on them with. If you choose to use these, I would write on them while they’re still on the sheet and transfer once they’ve dried.

  • Apply your stickers to the jars.

  • Wrap a small piece of ribbon around the neck of the jar to tie in a bow. (Note: You can also consider buying pre-made bows attached to twist-ties if you feel that’s easier).

  • If you want, rather than doing a thin piece of ribbon, you can put the jars in some disposable hot cups (you can put stickers on your hot cups to keep them on-theme or have children decorate the cups with snowflake stickers, etc.), tie them up with a ribbon and a mini candy cane on top.

Like I said, I made these super quickly while my son was napping, but I think they’d be a fun craft to have older children help out with! Disposable cups can be decorated with crayons and stickers. The jars I linked come in a box that has individual foam cut outs for each jar (to hold them in place) if you have a child old enough to scoop the cocoa or marshmallows—so that they don’t have to worry about potentially breaking the glass.

Or! You can make it a super fun DIY and make the hot cocoa powder together as a family!

Happy crafting!
